From the pandemic to the murder of George Floyd, many relationship managers are faced with challenges as they find themselves in the midst of ultra-sensitive conversations with prospects, volunteers, and donors. We will have the opportunity to unpack challenging experiences, understand the concept of race, privilege, power, and its influence, and develop courageous conversational skills. This session is designed to make space for vulnerable conversations that address advancement-specific realities and complexities as relationships managers. It will cover defining disruptive behavior to actual strategies on how one can gain confidence in handling difficult conversations and situations. 

Learning Objectives

After completing this session, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the varying levels of appropriate to inappropriate interactions
  • Discover various way to navigate and manage reactive emotions during encounters
  • Decide when or if a difficult conversation is appropriate
  • Identify ways to engage and develop psychologically safe spaces for self and employees to unpack challenging scenarios
  • Develop the steps needed to prepare for a discussion
  • Become more comfortable and confident having difficult conversations by having a collaborative versus adversarial approach
  • Learn positive language patterns that maintain relationships that improve healthy communities and workplace environments
